When you see your family doctor, you pay a patient fee (egenandel) and the state pays the rest. Here you can see what things cost, how the exemption card works – and why it pays to cancel in time.
Same price everywhere
We follow the national fee schedule for GPs (normaltariffen), set by the authorities. Patient fees are therefore the same at every family doctor in Norway.
The only thing that can vary between practices is services outside the fee schedule, such as certificates and statements.
Exemption card (frikort)
Once you have paid 3,278 kr in patient fees in 2026, you automatically get an exemption card. For the rest of the year you pay no patient fee at your family doctor.
Certificates and statements are not covered. You can see your fees and exemption card at helsenorge.no/frikort.
Remember to cancel
If you don't turn up and haven't cancelled at least 24 hours before, you must pay the full price of the appointment – both the patient fee and the part the state would otherwise pay. That is expensive.
Cancel on Helsenorge or by phone. If missing the appointment wasn't your fault, we look at each case individually.
