Medicines and prescriptions

All prescriptions are electronic. You can see them on Helsenorge and collect your medicine at any pharmacy.

Renew a prescription

Press “Forny resept” (renew prescription) on Helsenorge in good time – preferably a week before your medicine runs out. It is free. A prescription is usually valid for one year.

Habit-forming medicines

Sleeping pills, sedatives, strong painkillers and other medicines that can cause dependence are not renewed via “Forny resept” – unless you have an agreement with your doctor. The main rule is that you book an appointment and talk to your doctor.

See your prescriptions

On Helsenorge you can see which prescriptions you have, how much is left and when they expire.

Substitution at the pharmacy

The pharmacy can give you an equivalent medicine with the same active substance and the same effect – just with a different name and a lower price. If you would rather have the one you are used to, you can say no. Then you pay the price difference yourself.

When can the doctor reserve?

The doctor can only reserve you against substitution when there are weighty medical reasons – for example a risk of wrong use due to cognitive impairment or many medicines – and must record the reason in your journal each time. Being used to a particular brand is not enough. Helfo checks this.
