Pregnancy

Pregnant? Congratulations!

Get in touch as early as possible – the first check-up is usually in week 6–12. Check-ups are free, and you choose whether to see us, the midwife at the health centre, or both.

  1. Book an appointment with us

Book an appointment on Helsenorge as soon as you know you are pregnant. We examine you, take blood tests and use ultrasound, and follow you up throughout your pregnancy. We apply for a place to give birth and refer you for ultrasound – preferably before week 12, so you have time for the early ultrasound.

  2. Midwife in your municipality

You can also see the midwife at the health centre (helsestasjon), or share your check-ups between the midwife and us.

  3. Ultrasound and birth at Ahus

Ahus is the hospital for our area – that is where you have your ultrasound and give birth. The early ultrasound in week 11–14 is voluntary and requires a referral from a doctor or midwife. Once we or the midwife have applied for a place to give birth, you are automatically offered the routine ultrasound around week 18. Bring your health card.

Health card for pregnant women – on paper and digital

The health card is started at your first check-up – with us or with the midwife. You get it on paper, and everything from your check-ups is collected there. Bring it to every check-up and to the maternity ward.

The digital health card is the same, on Helsenorge: you can see everything yourself, and your GP, midwife and the hospital see the same information. Click «I want to take part», give your consent and fill in the form before your first check-up.
